Description
What this medicine is for
Sumatriptan Tablets are used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks in adults.
They are available in 50mg and 100mg strengths and are prescribed for patients with a confirmed diagnosis of migraine. Sumatriptan is used to relieve symptoms such as headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound.
It is not intended for the prevention of migraines or for the treatment of other types of headache.
How it works
Sumatriptan belongs to a group of medicines called triptans.
It works by narrowing widened blood vessels in the brain and reducing inflammation thought to contribute to migraine symptoms. This helps relieve pain and associated symptoms during an acute migraine attack.
It is most effective when taken early at the onset of symptoms.
