What this medicine is for

Malarone Tablets contain atovaquone 250mg and proguanil hydrochloride 100mg. They are used for the prevention and treatment of malaria, particularly infections caused by Plasmodium falciparum, the most severe form of malaria.

Malarone is commonly recommended for travellers visiting high-risk malaria regions, including parts of Africa, South America, and Asia. It is also used under medical supervision to treat active malaria infections.

How it works

Malarone works through a dual-action mechanism:

Atovaquone disrupts the parasite’s energy production, while proguanil enhances this effect and interferes with the parasite’s ability to replicate.

Together, they stop the malaria parasite from growing and spreading in the bloodstream.
