Description

Champix (active ingredient: Varenicline) is a prescription-only medicine designed to help adults quit smoking. It works by targeting the nicotine receptors in the brain, reducing both the pleasurable effects of smoking and the severity of cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Unlike nicotine replacement therapies (NRT), Champix does not contain nicotine. It is one of the most effective treatments for smoking cessation and has helped many people successfully stop smoking for good.

 How Champix Works:

• Partially stimulates nicotine receptors, easing withdrawal

• Blocks nicotine from attaching to receptors, reducing the satisfaction from smoking

• Reduces urge and makes cigarettes less enjoyable if smoked during treatment

 Dosage & Course:

A standard 12-week course is usually prescribed:

1. Days 1–3: 0.5 mg once daily

2. Days 4–7: 0.5 mg twice daily

3. Day 8 onwards: 1 mg twice daily (morning & evening)

• Set a “quit date” during Week 2 of taking Champix

• Treatment may be extended to 24 weeks for extra support

• Not suitable for those under 18 years of age

• Use with caution if you have a history of depression, mental illness, or seizures

• Avoid alcohol or limit intake as it may intensify side effects

• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding

 Stop smoking support programs are recommended alongside medication for best results.
